Heat, abrasive track and a lot of soil. The challenges of Campo Grande - MS racing circuit were not enough to stop the energy of Julio Campos, who is a racer from Paraná. He reached the sixth round of Stock Car following a podium sequence - first position in Santa Cruz do Sul, RS and third position in Londrina, PR. On this Saturday of training and qualifying for the two races on Sunday, 11, Julio secured the second position of the grid, sharing the front row with Thiago Camilo. The other driver of the team, Valdeno Brito, starts in the tenth position.
“The track really brought a lot of difficulty for all racers. We have a very good car, but the track is very dirty. As I was sixth in Q3 (group of the six fastest in qualifying) and made my lap first, there was too much dirt on the track from the Q2 cars, so I think I was affected by that. In Q1 and Q2, I did two laps in each to ensure better performance, so there was also an additional worn tire compared to Thiago, for example. Even though it was very good, I would be happy with a third or fourth place due to the difficulty of the track. So starting in the front row at Stock Car is great”, explains Julio Campos, who is fourth in the overall ranking of the competition.
Team Leader, Rodolpho Mattheis, also celebrates the results of the day
“The performance was very good, although the goal of putting both drivers on Q3 was not achieved. However, here in particular, we already knew the challenge was going to be big. We made a leap forward just by starting in the front row with Julio. Considering that we fight for the championship with Rubinho, Ricardinho and Daniel, we are starting right in front of them this Sunday. This for the championship can be very positive if we can get good points. The challenge will be to tackle Camilo, who is starting in front of us”, he says.
Valdeno Brito, from Paraíba, starts in 10th position, feeling that he was shortly to enter Q3. “It could have been better. We are still having some troubles to make the car have a good grip on some curves, which ends up taking two or three tenths that are essential for a better result. However, there are two long races with plenty of challenges, but I still want the podium. ”

Better strategy, more points
For this Sunday's races, the teams' strategies will be aggressive and whoever makes fewer mistakes will add the most points. That´s what Prati-Donaduzzi´s team wants. It has Julio Campos in fourth place, just 26 points behind championship leader, Daniel Serra.
“It will be a tough race in terms of strategy and I hope we can get it right, like in Santa Cruz,” concludes Mattheis.
The races in Campo Grande - MS are held this Sunday, 11, at 3pm and 4pm, Brasília time.
