A different Saturday at Stock Car. In addition to all the tension and dispute surrounding the Million Race, the race organization also included new rules for the count starts that made it difficult to fight for pole position and still raised doubts whether starting pole would be the best for this race on Sunday, 25th.

This is because the qualifier had four rounds instead of three, and the cars will not be able to fill up or have tires changed before the race. In other words, those ones who finish in the front have less fuel and more worn tires than those who will start behind.

Prati-Donaduzzi race driver, Julio Campos and Valdeno Brito, will be in the middle of the squad strategy, starting 12th and 20th respectively.

Team Leader, Rodolpho Mattheis, says some situations have caused them to switch strategies in the middle of count starts. “Julio had a tire block on the first fast lap and we lost performance due to this problem, which brought us a lot troubles in Q2 (second qualifying round with the fastest 15). We decided, as a matter of strategy, not to try the quick second lap in Q2 in order to avoid spending the fuel. In fact, everything remains indecisive, as the backward squad is five or six seconds ahead of the top six. Therefore, if we have a good pace tomorrow, I think at the pit stop we can reach the first squad. ”

Julio Campos, who is third position in the overall ranking and fights for the title of the competition, remains optimistic and believes that there are still chances to win the top prize of Stock Car.

“I am sure we had a car to start among the six first ones, but we really don't know which is better. If it is starting from seventh back to the tenth, or in front. The result was not what we needed, but tomorrow we will have a car to get ahead and the million can still be ours!” says Campos.

The driver from Paraíba, Valdeno Brito, suffered from oil on the track and consequently did not advance to Q2.

“I was reassured to get to Q2, but unfortunately there was a zero-curve engine overflow that spilled oil on the track and they didn't give a red flag so that everyone had the same condition. Only those who were lighter and low on fuel could pass faster, such as Di Grassi. Nevertheless, we hope this will become an advantage for us tomorrow, because I have made few turns with the tire and I have enough fuel to avoid making a long stop. I believe this will make up for a good race”, concludes the driver who was the first winner of the Million Race in 2008.

The 2019 Stock Car Million Race will be held on Sunday, 25 at Interlagos Circuit in Sao Paulo, SP.
