The start was given for a strategic puzzle in the Million Race. The most important round of Stock Car had its initial training sessions on Friday, 23, and the teams are still trying to find the best balance between speed and fuel strategy, thinking about the special rules of this race.
Cars cannot be fueled between Saturday's 24th qualifying session and Sunday's 25th race. This means that the racers must start with the same amount of fuel left after the grid has been set. Some teams are likely to opt for a lighter car in order to reach the pole position and have more difficulty during the race.
Others may start behind with a full tank and heavy car, thinking of having more autonomy in the race.
“The day was a little difficult to evolve the car, mainly because in the first practice the track was wet and it was difficult to draw a conclusion. However, the second training was very positive, especially for Julio. This is unknown, as fuel strategies for classification may differ. Therefore, we have to compare only between the cars of our team and Ipiranga´s (headed by Andreas Mattheis, Rodolpho's father). In this regard, evaluating the times of Thiago Camilo, Julio is very competitive”, adds Rodolpho.
In fact, Julio Campos managed to finish the day in the top ten, in ninth position. Third position in the points table, he believes the car will repeat the good performance of the last three rounds, where he went to the podium and even won in Santa Cruz do Sul. “It will be an atypical race with this qualifying news. However, I really think we are very fast and very competitive”, he says.
Valdeno Brito - who experimented with different strategies without focusing so much on lap time - finished 22nd. “It was a reasonable day. Everything is new at this round, so we are preparing to see what type of hit will be best for the strategy we will have. I have not reached any conclusions yet and we have a lot of work until tomorrow. ”
