Attention, affection and care are words that are present in the daily lives of thousands of caregivers and family members who have the noble mission of caring for a person with Alzheimer's or another type of dementia. In order to assist at this moment, the Prati-Donaduzzi pharmaceutical industry launched the Patient Diary, which is free of charge.
The material was developed so that caregivers and family members can report the patient's daily routine and share in medical appointments, ensuring the best treatment follow-up.
According to the Neurologist, Dr. José Guilherme Schwam, the tool launched by the pharmaceutical company contributes to the treatment with the exchange of information about the patient's routine during medical appointments and the safety of patient information.
“The Patient Diary is a very detailed material that helps a lot in medical treatment, because in it, caregivers will be able to write down the patient's entire routine, such as medications, food and the entire history, contributing a lot to medical monitoring”, explains the Neurologist.

The launch took place on Vó da Pomba's Instagram profile (@vodapomba). The virtual meeting was held between the caregiver, Vozinha's grandson and her doctor, the Neurologist Dr. José Guilherme Schwam. Mrs. Amália's social media, affectionately known by her followers as Vozinha (Grandma), is a reference in elderly care.
“Caring for an Alzheimer's patient is a great challenge for caregivers and also for family members. Having a tool like the Patient Diary is very important, because wherever I go I can take all the notes with me. For instance, the report of vozinha´s day and especially share it during the appointment”, says Mrs. Amália´s grandson.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 50 million people worldwide suffer from some form of dementia, 70% of which are caused by Alzheimer's.
In Brazil, it is estimated that the number of new cases will triple with the aging of the population by 2050. Alzheimer's is the most common degenerative disease in the elderly and affects memory, speech and the notion of time and space.
