São José dos Campos City (SP) has introduced itself as a strategic place to house a new Prati-Donaduzzi factory, which is currently considered the largest producer of generic drugs in Brazil *.
The invitation to take a branch of the industry from Paraná to the state of Sao Paulo was made by the Secretary of Administrative Management and Finance of Sao Jose dos Campos, José de Mello Correa, this Thursday (5), during a visit to the factory based in Toledo, in western Paraná.
At Prati-Donaduzzi, the CEO, Eder Fernando Maffissoni and the CFO, Marcelo Safadi Alvares welcomed him.
São Paulo is the third Brazilian state to present benefit packages for the pharmaceutical company to build its second industrial park in its regions. In July, Prati-Donaduzzi received representatives from the Pernambuco Economic Development Agency (AD Diper) and, in August, the delegation of the governor of Ceará, Camilo Santana.
Developed Municipality
In his defense, the secretary of Sao Jose dos Campos (SP), Jose Mello Correa, said the city has the expertise, infrastructure and logistics to house the corporation. The reasons are the large companies based in the region, such as Embraer, General Motors, Panasonic and Johnson & Johnson.
The city also has one of the largest technology parks in Brazil, with over 120 companies in operation and 300 associates; it has one of the highest Human Development Indexes (HDI) in Brazil and can be considered an ideal logistics hub for the importation of raw materials and product distribution through ports, railways, airports and road transport. “We are one of the most technological, safe and developed regions in the country”, said Mello.
In addition to these attractions, São José dos Campos offered an area of over 100 thousand square meters in the Special Zone of the Technological Park, located on the edge of Presidente Dutra Highway, one of the busiest highways in the country. “We want to be partners with Prati-Donaduzzi. We are available to help them, even developing the new factory project”,said the secretary.
According to Prati-Donaduzzi CEO, the company is interested in investing in São Paulo, as the state concentrates a very important percentage of the generic industry revenues, but it is in a feasibility calculation phase. “If we build in Toledo, our operating cost will be lower, as we already have a prepared structure, just needing expansion. But we are also studying logistics issues and the expansion of the company”, he said.

Best moment
Maffissoni emphasized that building a new plant is a necessity. “We have a good problem. We have several products already approved and ready to be launched in 2019, but we have already reached our production capacity. We need a new factory to keep growing. Our goal is to double in size every five years”, he explained.
This structured growth is the result of investment in research and innovation. Only in 2019, the company launched 46 products. “This year we grew 35% in retail sales compared to 2018”, concluded the CEO.
